CemAir is a scheduled airline based at OR Tambo International Airport with routes to Bloemfontein, George, Cape Town, Hoedspruit, Margate, Plettenberg Bay, and many routes across South Africa.
Cemair Flight, Who They Are?
According To WordPres.org, CemAir (Pty) Ltd is a privately owned airline operating in South Africa which services popular tourist destinations and important business towns, as well as leasing aircraft to other airlines across Africa and the Middle East.
The airline is based in Johannesburg. It was forced by the authorities to suspend operations in late 2018.
The airline successfully launched a High Court challenge and the grounding was overturned.
The CAA then again grounded the Airline in January 2019 and CemAir challenged the decision before the Civil Aviation Appeal Committee.
On the 29th of April 2019, the CAAC issued a judgement in favour of the airline calling the CAA’s actions “irrational, arbitrary, unreasonable and procedurally unfair” and “factually wrong.
History Of CemAir?
The company was formed in 2005 with the purpose of operating turboprop commuter aircraft, with the initial fleet consisting of 1 Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft and 3 Beechcraft 1900C aircraft.
In January 2018, the South African Civil Aviation Authority withdrew the Certificate of Airworthiness for 12 of the airline’s aircraft due to allegedly unqualified personnel certifying the aircraft as airworthy.
In December 2018, the airline was grounded until further notice by the South African aviation authorities stating safety reasons.
The decision was challenged and the CAA decision was overturned by the Civil Aviation Appeal Committee.
In January 2021, CemAir signed an interline agreement with Ethiopian Airlines.

2. Select Your Preferred Flights
All the available fares on your chosen travel dates will now be displayed on screen. To view flights on other dates please use the ‘Earlier’ and ‘Later’ buttons displayed for both outbound and inbound flights.
Once you have found your preferred flights please select them on the right hand side and click ‘Next’.
If you have accidentally selected the wrong flights you can empty your basket on the left side of the screen.
You can also refine the search by re-selecting your origin, destination, travel dates and number of passengers.
3. Enter Passenger Details
If you are happy with the flight times and fares you have selected, press ‘Next’.
4. Confirm Flights
Enter all required details for passengers travelling on your booking. Names must be a precise match with the passengers’ passport or documentation.
Enter your contact details and inform Cemair if you have any special requirements.
To proceed to the next step of your booking, confirm that you have read and agree to the company terms and conditions before pressing ‘Next’.
5. Confirmation and Payment
Once you have confirmed the details of all passengers you will need to select a payment method. You can pay for your tickets by any of the following methods:

By cash-over-the-counter or with your credit card at one of the Cemair ticket offices
With your local travel agent
To secure your bookings with Cemair payment must be made within the following time limits:
• 24 hours of booking if travelling within a month
• 6 hours of booking if travelling within 4 days
• 6 hours of booking if travelling in less than 4 days
• 1 hour of booking if travelling within 24 hours
• Upon selecting a payment type you will receive a booking reference. Use this booking reference to arrange payment if paying at a Cemair office or with a travel agent.

Check-in counters open 90 minutes prior to the scheduled departure and close 45 minutes prior to departure for Johannesburg and Cape Town Airports and 30 minutes prior to departure in Plettenberg Bay and Margate.
To facilitate on-time departures, passengers are asked to proceed directly to the boarding gate area once checked in.
Check-in counters in Johannesburg are located in Terminal B, Domestic Flights. Please consult the display board for the allocated check in counters for the day.
For check-in counters in Cape Town, please consult the display board to confirm.
Check-in Counters in Margate, Plettenberg Bay and Sishen are located in Domestic Departures. Please consult the display board for the allocated check in counters for the day.
Passengers must produce photographic ID when checking in for their flight. Should show proof of identity not be available, passengers may be denied boarding.
Children under 16 and infants who do not have an official government issued photo ID can use as proof of ID their birth certificate and in the case of under 5, their vaccination certificate.
Airport Departure and Security taxes are included in the price of the ticket.
Passengers must produce photographic ID when checking in for their flight. Should proof of identity not be available, passengers may be denied boarding.
Cemair Baggage Luggage Check In
• Checked Luggage
The Baggage Allowance on ALL routes is 21kgs (checked, this includes SkyCheck Luggage) and 6kg Carry-on
Where excess baggage, or an additional baggage allocation is purchased, no single bag weighing over 32kg will be accepted and must be shipped separately as cargo.
• International Passengers
CemAir Domestic passengers who are connecting to, or from, an international or regional flight will be entitled to an additional 10kg free checked luggage.
The international/regional flight must be within 3 (three) days of the ticketed CemAir flight. Proof of international/regional flight must be produced in order to qualify for the additional checked baggage allowance.
• Infant Baggage Allowance
Passengers travelling with infants (0-24 months) will be allowed an additional 10kg for the infant. A pram and car seat will also be allowed and does not form part of your free checked luggage allowance.
• Excess Baggage
Extra pieces of baggage (in excess of the checked baggage allowance) will be subject to excess and/or the additional baggage charges and will only be accepted on a space available (Standby) basis.
Passengers will be required to pay a charge for carriage of baggage in excess of the free baggage allowance.
The rate for excess is charged at R25.00 (ZAR) per kg. Excess baggage may be purchased online or paid at the airport when checking-in for a flight.
Baggage taken on a standby basis will be accepted with the understanding that CemAir (Pty) Ltd is not liable for delays in the transportation of the baggage to its destination or costs incurred by passengers for the collection of “Standby” Baggage. Perishable items will not be accepted as standby baggage.
Excess baggage is on a standby basis and is subject to space and is only loaded once the flight is closed and authorisation from the Captain has been obtained.
To guarantee the carriage of excess baggage passengers may book an extra seat to avail themselves of an additional 80kg baggage allowance. This may be arranged through the CemAir Reservations office.
• Sports Equipment
Due to the size and fragility, Sports equipment will be charged a handling fee of R250.00 per flight. Prior notification to the airline is advisable.
Sporting equipment does not form part of the free checked luggage allowance. Arrangements must be made with the Reservations team in advance. Items should be packed correctly for handling.

CemAir is a licensed International and Domestic Scheduled and Non-Scheduled air carrier with approval from the South African Department of Transport and Civil Aviation Authority to conduct operations throughout Africa and the Middle East as a Part 121 and 135 Operator.
In addition CemAir is a licensed Part 145 Maintenance and Repair Organisation with in house capabilities to maintain all of our own aircraft.
CemAir (Pty) Ltd is a privately owned, limited liability company, established in 2005 and incorporated under the laws of South Africa.
The company’s headquarters are at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg from where the operational, maintenance and administrative functions are controlled.
This facility consists of an 1800 sq.m. hangar, offices and a 2000 sq.m private apron and is the support hub for our operations.
CemAir currently owns and operates a large fleet of twelve CRJ 100/200 LR Airliners, nine Beech 1900D aircraft, two Dash-8 Q300’s and one Dash-8 100.
The management structure of the company conforms to the ICAO model (International Civil Aviation Organisation) and has six full-time post holders for complete oversight of flight operations and maintenance.
The duties and responsibilities of each position is documented with frequent internal and external audits to ensure compliance.
The organisation runs an ICAO based Safety Management System (SMS) conforming to the requirements of ICAO Safety Management Standards & Recommended Practises (SARPs) and ICAO Doc 9859.
The maintenance department consists of a Chief Inspector who oversees the workforce of licensed AMEs (Aircraft Maintenance Engineers) who hold the requisite CAA and FAA A&P licenses, a parts store and all the infrastructure required to support his team.
CemAir has numerous industry approvals and certifications which previously included a long standing BARS certification (the Flight Safety Foundation’s Basic Aviation Risk Standard). CemAir completed the IOSA Safety Audit (IATA Operational Safety Audit) in October 2016 and will be IOSA certified in the first quarter of 2017.
The IOSA programme is an internationally recognized and accepted evaluation system designed to assess and uphold the standards of operational management and control systems within an airline.
The IOSA Standard is arguably the most recognised and respected safety assessment standard in aviation and there are currently more than 400 airlines on the IOSA registry worldwide.
